the Artist
Hi! I’m Monica—the artist behind MDH Studio. I was born and raised in Western Maine and now live and work in the beautiful Lakes Region. A true introvert at heart, I’ve always turned to tangible art as a way to express myself and find balance between my inner and outer worlds.
My path into metalsmithing began with a single class in 2014—an experience that quietly set everything else in motion. Ceramics has come in and out of my life, but became my central focus over the past several years. I love exploring each medium individually, as well as blending metal and clay to create pieces that feel both grounded and intentional.
The studio
MDH Studio was founded in 2019 under the name Bad Fox Collections, focused on small-batch, one-of-a-kind jewelry. The studio ebbed and flowed over the following years, reflecting an evolving creative practice.
In early 2024, the studio was rebranded as MDH Studio and the work settled into focus as the studio grew to fully embrace both metal and clay.
The work
As a silversmith, I create handmade jewelry using traditional tools, silver, and stone. As a ceramicist, my work centers on wheel-thrown functional wares, with space to explore larger vessels made both on the wheel and by hand.
Inspired by natural elements and personal vision, each piece is made entirely by hand. The evidence of the process is intentionally preserved—small marks that reflect skill, effort, and care, making each piece as individual as the person who owns it.
